WorldQuest Travel Club welcomes travelers who want something a little different, and encourage them to explore the beaches and Puerto Plata, on the coast of the Dominican Republic. There are several options for a few day trips and time exploring, before returning to the beach.

One of the little known gems in Puerto Plata, the Waterfalls of Damajaqua Cascadas can be viewed during a six-hour tour through dense tropical forest. WorldQuest Travel Club highly recommends this as the views of the canopy frequently include tropical birds. A series of 27waterfalls result in as many crystal clear pools are set within ancient limestone cliffs. Visitors can splash, swim, and play in the pools at the foot of the falls. Lunch is included, with grilled meat, pasta, salad, and fruit, served buffet style.

  • A full-day city tour by Teleferico Cable Car takes vacationers to a variety of landmarks; including the San Felipe Fort, Brugal Rum Center, and Dominican Amber Museum. The tour even extends up Isabel de Toress Mountain, treating vacationers to an amazing view. The local guide gives an excellent history lesson throughout the tour. There is no better way to see and experience Puerto Plata than via cable car.

  • Often called Paradise Island, the uninhabited island of Cayo Paraiso, is located off the coast of Puerta Plata. It is a popular spot for snorkelers and tours via catamaran. A short speedboat ride from Punta Rucia is the usual approach to the island. Swimming and snorkeling is available around the island, including the lagoons. Each tour is about 2.5 hours and visitors will see tropical fish, sea turtles, stingrays, and bright coral formations.

WorldQuest Travel Club knows it’s hard to leave the wonderful beaches of the Dominican Republic, but thinks that these few examples of things to do make the trip well worth it.
